    Short Walks
Happy hikersA 10 minute walk takes you to an old house site and the best view on the road. A bit further through regenerating forest takes you to 'The second gate', giving a round trip of 50 minutes.

Harvey's bush - a fantastic hour long walk through a neighbours bush reserve.

    Longer walks/tramps/runs
    The Brynderwyn Walkway
This is a well known tramp from the summit of SH1 near the Skyline Tearooms down to Waipu Cove. It takes 7 hours and is only recommended for serious trampers. Massey Rd cuts this walkway about half way, so one option is to walk to Waihoihoi Lodge on one day, and walk the second half the next. We are very happy to drop people or pick them up at either end of the walk. Note that at present the walkway is officially closed except on Sundays because of logging activities.

    Walk to the Trig
A 3 hour round trip from the Lodge, Waipu Covealong part of the Brynderwyn walkway, takes you a panoramic view over Mangawhai and down to Goat Island and across to the Wairoa River and the west coast.

    Horse Riding
Our neighbours have horses which graze our land occasionally, and sometimes can arrange a ride.

    Mountain biking
We have two bikes which can be borrowed. The Brynderwyn track goes past our house.

Do all of it or just some - most of the walks above can be done on a mountain bike. Take the bikes to the beach at low tide and ride the length of Uretiti beach from Waipu Cove to Marsden point.
